Neil Armstrong’s Omega Watches sold for $2.1 million
Neil Armstrong’s Omega Speedmaster sold for $2.1 million. A yellow gold watch presented to the first man to set foot on the moon in 1969 appeared at RR Auction. Half of the proceeds will be donated to charities chosen by Neil’s son, Mark Armstrong.
In 2022, RR Auction sold a copy of Wally Schirr’s Omega Speedmaster Professional commemorative chronographs for almost $2 million.
This chronograph is one of the 26 commemorative «Tribute to Astronauts» watches that were presented to the astronauts at a gala dinner on November 25, 1969 at the Warwick Hotel in Houston. On the back of the watch is an engraving of Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, Gemini 8 — Apollo 11 and the phrase «In commemoration of man’s conquest of space over time, through time and in a timely manner.» The gold bezel has a burgundy aluminum insert with the famous «dot over 90» and a gold dial (next to Swiss Made is the inscription OM, Or Massif, «solid gold»). The hour markers are made of onyx and encased in gold frames.
